07/04 - No troop meeting - Independence Day

Also, positions of instructor, troop guide and OA representative will be selected as needed.

08/05-07 (Fri.6pm-Sun.12pm) - Troop JLT Campout. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT WEEKEND.   All new leaders will be expected to attend this very special, and well-planned campout. Every minute of this weekend is designed by plan to instruct the boys about leadership, their roles in the troop, planning and expectations for their role.  If your son is selected or elected into leadership then attendance at the Troop JLT Campout is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. This campout is very important for several reasons. First, it helps integrate your son into the new leadership. Second, it explains to your son his responsibility to his patrol or the troop. Third, it provides your son with direct access to his Patrol Advisor, and to the adult leadership of the troop. And, finally, it's a fun weekend where your son will learn more about the Scouting program in two days than he's learned to date.  That's my personal guarantee.
So, the bottom line is this for parents. If you son is selected into leadership for the upcoming Fall term, I fully expect them to attend the JLT Campout August 5-7. I'll be there. The patrol advisors will be there. It's important to the success of the troop that your son be there, too.

08/08 (Mon.6-9pm) - Troop "end-of-summer" party at the Raymond home. If you have something that squirts or floats, BRING IT! Junior Leadership Training

Junior Leadership Training

Junior Leadership Training or JLT is conducted twice a year as we rotate leadership positions. The primary Scout position, Senior Patrol Leader, is changed twice a year corresponding to our two terms, Fall and Spring.

Twice a year, in January and August, we conduct a special campout for the boys who have accepted leadership positions. During this campout the boys learn how the troop is organized, what their roles are and the boys conduct a long-range planning session for the upcoming 8-12 months.

This is a very important training session because it brings the new leadership team together and it instructs each boy about the responsibilities and expectations of his position in the troop.

Here are two dates that are very important for boys moving into leadership positions:

July 11: Troop Elections. At this meeting the boys will elect new patrol leaders and elect the senior patrol leader. These are the only elected positions in the troop. In the week following, the new senior patrol leader will work with the scoutmaster to assign the remaining troop leadership positions: scribe, librarian, quartermasters, historian, chaplain aide and bugler. Also, positions of instructor, troop guide and OA representative will be selected as needed.

August 5-7: Troop JLT Campout.
