Eagle Scout project - Adam Karonika

To the scouts and families of Troop 1631,

Yet again, I need volunteers for my Eagle Scout project. I will need volunteers to work on the following days at your convenience during these times:

  • Friday 10/28: 10:00 AM-3:30 PM
  • Saturday 10/29: 10:00 AM-4:00 PM
  • Sunday 10/30: 1:30 PM-7:30 PM
  • Saturday 11/05: 3:00 PM-10:00 PM
  • Sunday 11/06: 1:30 PM-7:30 PM

The project will be worked on at my house (2914 Lakefield Way).

If you are planning on volunteering, please e-mail me (JawaGuy500@AOL.com) or call me (281-980-6354) and let me know when you can volunteer. I will need an adult to volunteer during these times so that I can meet the mandatory "two adults present" requirement, so please contact me if you are available.

Also, I still am collecting computers and accessories for my project; please contact me if you have anything to donate.

I also want to extend my thanks to those who have helped out with my project so far. This project would not be possible without the help I have received from the troop and the community.

Troop 1631 activity calendar

NOTE: At the Troop meeting this Monday we will again be hosting several Webelos Scouts. This is important for recruiting, so we need a good turnout.
This time we will be demonstrating Wilderness Survival skills. The following patrol assignments have been made:
    • Cobras - Shelters (bring poles, rope, and tarps)
    • Bobcats - Travoy, A-frame construction
    • Raccoons - Moonball game
    • Tigers - Tennis ball game
    • Leadership - Shipwreck game
Webmaster note: A current Scout roster has been posted at the website.  If you did not receive an email containing its location and password, please let me know.  Also, if you downloaded the file before 4 PM Sunday, that version included a page with information about adult leaders that has not been updated, and should be disregarded. The version now available contains only the latest Scout information.

Subject: From Adam Karonika: Volunteering and Donations for my Eagle Project

To the scouts and families of Troop 1631,

First, I would like to extend my gratitude to those who have volunteered and/or donated items for my project.  This couldn't be done without the help I have received from the troop.

I still need donations in the form of computers and associated parts and accessories (see below for a list).  These can be dropped off at my house, or I can pick them up at your house (please call to make arrangements).  I especially need working printers (preferably with ink cartridges) and mice (both standard and trackball).  Also, if you are aware of businesses that are undergoing upgrades, and are discarding old systems, please notify me of this.

I will need volunteers on Sunday, 10/23, from 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM.  Again, this will be at my house: 2914 Lakefield Way, Sugar Land, TX, 77479.  Like last time, the volunteers will be cleaning and moving computers, and installing software.

Below is a list of items that I am looking for:
Computer systems/setups (with install/restore CDs, if possible)
Computer towers
Computer monitors (tested)
Laptop computers
Cables (power, USB, Parallel port, Serial port, Ethernet, IDE, Floppy, etc)
Printers (preferably with cartridges)
Mice
Keyboards
Speakers
Headphones
Mouse pads
Surge protectors
Networking hubs/routers/switches
Modems (internal and external)
Hard drives
CDROM, DVDROM drives
Floppy drives
RAM
ISA, PCI and AGP cards
PCMCIA (CardBus) cards
Power supplies
Blank CDRs, CDRWs

Thank you in advance for your support.

Troop 1631 popcorn sales

Attention Popcorn Sellers:

Some of you may have received notification regarding Boy Scout Popcorn sales through the mail from the Sam Houston Area Council, including an order form.

Popcorn sales are indeed going on right now for Boy Scouts in this area.

Due to miscommunication and personal schedule conflicts, I have been unable to collect the supplies that the district provides for us to be a successful selling troop. Hopefully, I will have information for you at our next troop meeting and anyone interested selling popcorn can see me then.

If you have an order form, please feel free to take orders for popcorn if you are interested in doing so.

Remember, the profit earned by your sales goes directly into your account with the troop for you to use for campouts, summer camp, recharter, etc...

If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to contact me via phone (281-313-1284) or via email (jackhid@houston.rr.com).

Readyman + October-November 2005 Calendar

READYMAN:  The Troop meeting this Monday will begin at 6:30 pm at Colony Bend Elementary. Once again we will be helping approximately 50 Webelos Scouts earn their Readyman badge, and we need everyone to participate!  Each Patrol has a role. We also need several moms to help with sign-in and greeting, along with our Troop Guides and Recruiter. ASMs will be helping at stations and with greeting.  This event is a very important recruiting opportunity for the troop, so please read the following carefully, and please Be Prepared to help!

Readyman:

  • 10 minutes per station in rotation.
  • 10 Webelos in each group. There will be at least 2--but preferably 4--Troop 1631 Scouts and at least one adult advisor per station.
  • All Troop 1631 scouts need to arrive at 6:30 pm for setup.
  • Please go back and read Readyman requirements in your Webelos handbooks if possible.

The patrol assignments are as follows:

  • Station A - Tiger Patrol
    1. Explain what first aid is. Tell what you should do after an accident.
    2. Explain how you can get help quickly if there is an emergency in your home. Make a "help list" of people or agencies that can help you if you need it. Post it near phone or other place with easy access. (Mrs. Wedelich will have cards printed with space for write in of personal numbers.)
  • Station B - Bobcat Patrol
    3. Show what to do for these "hurry cases": Serious bleeding, Stopped breathing, Internal poisoning, Heart attack. (We will have a ‘ressuci-Annie’ doll to demonstrate CPR very quickly no cubs will practice on her)
  • Station C - Cobra Patrol
    4. Show how to treat for shock.
    5. Show first aid for the following: Cuts and scratches, Burns and scalds, Choking. (what items do you need here? blanket? Gauze...Someone needs to get the troop box of supplies from the trailer)
  • Station D - Penguin Patrol
    6. Tell what steps must be taken for a safe swim with your Webelos den, pack, family, or other group. Explain the reasons for the buddy system.
  • Station E - Raccoon Patrol
    7. Explain six safety rules you should follow when driving a bicycle. (Daniel G. to bring bike and helmet)
  • Station F - Polar Bear Patrol
    9. Explain how to use each item in a first aid kit. (bring a first aid kit decide what items should be included, and what should not)

Canoe trek October 14-16

The Troop camping program for October is a patrol camp-out.  The older Scouts (Bobcat, Cobra, and Penguin) have a canoe trek planned for next weekend, October 14-16, on the Guadalupe River.  We will canoe most of the day Saturday - this is a white water river trek.  This trip is also open to 8th grade Scouts in the Tiger or Raccoon patrols, and the SPL/ASPLs.

Please contact Hank Wedelich ASAP, 281 265 0584, or hank@wedelich.com if you are interested in attending this campout.  We need to firm up the reservations for canoes by Friday, Oct 7.  The cost will be about $50, as it includes canoe rentals.  Currently scouts signed up are:  Ananth B, Keith W, and Brian I.  Adults are Scott Icenhower and Hank Wedelich.

Webelos Woods campout this weekend

Webelos Woods is ON for this weekend! And the Fall Weather looks great for Camping!

Webelos Woods is an optional camp-out for most scouts, as we also have a patrol camp-out planned for October, but Webelos Woods is an important part of our outreach to packs, and we need to have a good group of boys to help with Webelos Woods.

The Webelos Recruiters and Troop Guides for troop 1631 (Chancey Raymond, Travis Long, Will McKeever, and Warren Chan) are expected to attend Webelos Woods this weekend, Oct 7-9. Webelos Woods is a Friday night to Sunday morning camp-out where the Boy Scouts help Webelos with advancement and help them learn about the Boy Scout program.

We will be helping pack 1800, 4th grade Webelos during the camp-out. Cody Power's has a cousin in this age group. There is a meeting to organize Webelos Woods this Wednesday night, 7:30 pm at the Wedelich's house - 3019 Pecan Ridge Drive. Any scout who would like to attend this campout is welcome. We can always use the help. We are also in need of a few more adults. Please contact Kevin Clark, 281 652 6974 or Hank Wedelich 281 265 0584 if you can attend.

Yours in Scouting,

Hank Wedelich
