Hello Campers,
The Spring Bivouac at Camp Hamman near Banderas, Texas will be held this
weekend, March 17-19.
The bivouac consists of an overnighter at the Hamman Base Camp on Friday
night. Saturday morning we pack up and move camp to Spring Lake, about 5
miles over hill and dale.
Each Scout and Scouter should be prepared with a tent or tarps to make a
shelter, backpacking food, water and personal gear appropriate for the
weather: rain gear, fleece tops, gloves and hats depending on the
forecasted weather. Check the Internet for the long-term forecast for
Banderas, Texas to prepare appropriately. Generally, at this time of year a
long sleeved shirt and light jacket would be OK. Always bring rain gear.
Be prepared with water as this is a dry camp. Bring at least 3 liters no
more than 5.
Be prepared to provide your own meals on the trail and to cook over a small
stove. Appropriate food would include Ramen noodles, Rice-a- Roni and other
noodle-type dishes that only require boiling. Avoid meats, anything in a
can, sauces or anything that requires more than the simplest clean-up.
Dried fruit, dried sausages, granola bars, nuts, etc are appropriate trail
food.
For breakfast, oatmeal, cream of wheat, breakfast bars, tea and soup are
appropriate. Again, think light. Think boiled. Think easy to clean.
Transportation to Camp Hamman may be a bit unusual as some people may choose
to leave earlier than the Permission Slip time. Transportation will be
ironed out this week.
The fee is $20 which will cover the Spring Bivouac fee of $18/ person. The
fee includes the Camp Hamman bivouac patch. Food costs are in addition to
this fee and per individual. There will be no food refunds.
Please direct questions to Bill Farrell (281 293-2424 day, 281-565-8967
evenings).
