I need advise on whether or not the bench needs sanding now or later and also about the varnish. I will also need three scouts to help me build a bench. FW: Eagle BOR

Ross Meyer appeared before a Board of Review on 06/26/06 and was advanced to the rank of Eagle Scout. Ross is the first Eagle Scout of the second one hundred Eagles for Troop 1631. Congratulations Ross, for a job well done and welcome to the Eagle’s Nest! Now we have to figure out how to fit the second hundred Eagles into the nest. It’s getting to be a tight fit.

Sunday Summer Camp Update

Bill called at 9:45 a.m. this morning.  Estimated arrival time in Sugar Land is 1:45 p.m.  He will call me once they get to the east side of Houston.  At that time, I will start calling people.  They lucked out last night with no rain- just a little lightning.  Now the only one that is sick is Travis.  They are not planning to stop for lunch, so expect hungry boys.

Saturday Night Summer Camp Update

Bill just called at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.  They arrived in Mandeville, LA.  They are camping in a lightning storm with a 40% chance of rain for the night.  This is after hiking 13 miles on Friday which ended up in the rain & mud before they arrived back in camp.  It appears it was a tough trip today as they witnessed two wrecks in Georgia.

There is some type of virus going around with the boys.  Max & Cody were sick earlier in the week, but are fine now. Kevin got sick earlier today, but Bill felt that was car sickness from the roads they were on.  Warren is now sick, & Austin is complaining of a headache & may have a low grade fever.

They have food for breakfast.  Bill feels that they are about 5 hours from Sugar Land.  I will post updates tomorrow & call you as they get closer.

You might want to say a prayer for the final leg of their journey to go well.  Coming home is always the hard part since all are tired & now they have several not feeling well.

Summer Camp Update

Summer Camp Parents:

I heard from Bill this morning around 8:30 a.m.  They had left North Carolina and were close to the Georgia border at that time.  Camp was great!  Their plans are still to get to Slidell, LA this evening.  If things go as planned, they may be home closer to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.  Bill is to call me later this evening once they stop for the night.  I'll send another update then.

Troop Recruitting Event

Mark your calendar!

Pack 631 has invited Troop 1631 to join them for a Field Day this Saturday June 24th from 6 to 8 pm at the First Colony Christian Church.  They will provide the Hamburgers and Hot Dogs and we will provide the Cobbler.  There will be games galore and the Troop will be manning the catapult to launch -- what else -- water balloons.

This is considered a recruiting event for our troop.   We would like to have a good showing of scouts and families.

Uniform will be Class "B" which is Troop T-Shirt, Scout Shorts, Socks, and Belt.  You can wear any Scout T-Shirt from a previous camp if you desire.  Bring your chair and your appetite and plan to have some fun!

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Summer Camp Update

To All Summer Camp Families,

I heard from Bill on Sunday afternoon when they were about an hour from camp.  The long trip had gone well.  I heard from him this morning(Tuesday).  THERE ARE NO CELL PHONE SIGNALS IN CAMP.  He called me from a pay phone.  He will call again on Thursday.
Camp is going well.  Five of the boys are on the high adventure camp down in the valley from the Merit Badge camp.  Bill has indicated this is a very well run camp, and all staff are very accommodating.  Some were scheduled to take the Swimming Merit Badge, but that was to be held in some type of stream.  The water temperature was in the 50s.  Needless to say some of them chose to switch merit badges.  The food is good with nice portions as opposed to last year.  There are no bears-maybe some raccoons. T1631 won the award for traveling the longest distance for the week.
All is well at camp.  I'll send an update later in the week.
   Sandra

If you need to reach someone at camp, please call the camp number on the paper Bill gave you.

Troop activities

REMINDER: There is a fishing trip planned for the June 12th troop meeting. The stocked catfish pond is in Needville and it closes at 7:00 PM. In order for us to have plenty of time to fish, we will be leaving at 4:00 PM from Colony Bend. You will need to bring your own fishing pole. A lawn chair and water would be nice to bring along. There will be a charge of $2.00/lb for any fish you want to keep. They also sell bait there. Bait costs $1.00. You can also bring your own bait if you prefer.
We also need some adults to come along as drivers. If you can make it, please give me a call at 713-408-8899 or email me at stewartl@houston.rr.com.
Be prepared.
Stewart Lam

NOTE: Troop 1631 will participate in a Field Day with Pack 631 on Wednesday, June 21 at First Colony Christian Church.  Since many of our scouts will be at summer camp, we will need all the boys who stay behind to help out. Please make your plans accordingly.

For the full troop calendar visit www.t1631.org. Please send any corrections/additions to cliff@t1631.org.

Adam Slagle's Eagle Project

I finally have the time to complete my Eagle Project now that summer has started and I need to schedule scouts to help with the construction.  We will be constructing shelves for the Commonwealth Elementary School Music Department, at my house, 5307 April Run Ct., Villages of Avalon, on Tuesday, June 13th at 10:00 AM. I also need help on Wednesday, June 14th at 10:00 AM transporting and installing them in the school. We will provide water, snacks and lunch for them. I’ve already contacted three scouts from my patrol to help, but I would appreciate any help you could provide in recruiting two older scouts to help out (because we’ll be using power tools). I also need about three younger scouts. That would be a total of 9 scouts including me. Please send out an e-mail to the troop about my need for help. They can contact me at 281-494-0668 or by e-mail, rmacinsl@earthlink.net. I appreciate all the help!

Thank you,

Adam Slagle
